[R] Does R support [:punct:] in regexps?

Hello does R support [:punct:] in regular expressions?  I am trying to
strip all regular expressions for a vector of strings.

> x <- c("yoda-yoda","billy!")
> gsub("/[:punct:]/","",x)
[1] "yoda-yoda" "billy!"
