Hi Boem,

Yes, you can. This is one of the nicest parts of R and adds to its
extensibility. 

See Charlie Geyer's page at http://www.stat.umn.edu/~charlie/rc/ for a
simple example. There are also other examples you can find on the web
via a simple Google search.
