Are you sure? This is the line on CRAN Package Check as of today, 6PM  
EST:

ncdf 1.6.3 OK OK OK OK OK OK OK OK OK ERROR OK Brian Ripley

The ERROR is for MacOSX and for that purpose there is also ncdf4 that  
does pass package checks.
