[R] Regular expression to find value between brackets

Note:

My original proposal, not quite right, can be made quite right via:

gsub(".*\\((.*)\\).*||[^()]+", "\\1",tests)

The "||" or clause at the end handles the case where there are no
parentheses in the string.
