Last Friday we learned that R is accepted again for the Google Summer of Code.

R's "ideas" are at http://rwiki.sciviews.org/doku.php?id=developers:projects:gsoc2011

On that page is a link to our google groups list for mentors and prospective students.
See http://www.google-melange.com/ for the official Google site. Note that successful
student applicants are paid a stipend that is generally considered to be quite attractive.

Students interested should
1) look at the ideas and get in touch with mentors of projects of interest.
2) join the google group for gsoc-r http://groups.google.com/group/gsoc-r which we use to
administer the program for R

Right now Melange (the system Google uses to run the program) is being reset. Should be
back real soon.

We hope for a number of strong applications. Last year we did not take all the slots
offered by Google as we did not feel all the student proposals were strong enough.
