You could use return(), e.g.,

myFun <- function (x, max.iter = 5) {
     for (i in 1:10) {
         result <- x + i
         iter <- i
         if (iter == max.iter) {
             return(result)
         }
     }
     result
}

myFun(10, max.iter = 4)
