[R] Install 64 bit version of package on OS X

1. This belongs on R-SIG-Mac.

And it didn't install the x86_64 architecture?
Are you sure?
Any error messages?
Have you tried library(...)?

2. from my experiments R CMD INSTALL seems to ignore the --arch option. And installs both i386 and x86_64 versions.

3. I don't think you can resolve "this".  If you have installed CRAN R you will have both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of R.
So it is  quite natural that R  installs both arch'es.
