[R] Problem quitting

Can someone explain why all of a sudden I can't quit?

>q("n") returns

Error in gzfile(file, "wb") : cannot open the connection
In addition: Warning message:
In gzfile(file, "wb") :
  cannot open compressed file '.RDataTmp', probable reason 'Permission denied'

I'm running

R 2.15.3 GUI 1.53 Leopard build 64-bit

on a MacBook Pro

Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i7

Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
