[R] Error: cannot allocate vector of size 5.2 Gb

5.2 won't go into 4 but there may be more problems.

32-bit or 64 bit operating system?

RAM is cheap but will your motherboard support more than 4 GB?
And don't forget there are other processes that need to run while you are 
using R.
