That's strange. The package is currently on CRAN and even passes all
the checks: https://cran.r-project.org/package=lfe

Can you install it separately? There's even an R-oldrel binary for your
R version, and the instructions don't suggest doing anything strange
that would prevent install.packages() from locating that dependency for
you.
