[BioC] ReadAffy(widget=TRUE) on OSX 10.4

Whenever I try to run ReadAffy(widget=TRUE) I have a widget pop up in  
an X11 window, however it hangs. Either only a partial window comes  
up or a window comes up with a list of CEL files. In the latter, I am  
unable to select any of the files. It requires a force-quit to end  
both X11 and R. Does anyone have an idea what may be causing this  
(e.g. running on OSX 10.4)? I have just installed all of the packages  
and even ran update.packages() to make sure everything was current.  
It's possible that this may still not produce a completely up-to-date  
system as I have seen threads claiming the compiler errors in plier  
have been fixed (malloc.h). However, the version I just downloaded  
from bioconductor.org still has the bug, which I had to fix in order  
to get successful compilation (runs fine).
