When I use the read.xport() function in the foreign library, the Rgui shuts
down. My xport file was created in SAS ver.6, using the xport engine in proc
copy.

R commands:
1. library(foreign)
2. lookup.xport("fdt.tpt") <-- this works fine.
3. read.xport("fdt.tpt") <-- this produces a window that says "This program has
performed an illegal operation and will be shut down." The details are shown
below:

RGUI caused an invalid page fault in
module FOREIGN.DLL at 017f:14c727e7.

The date on the foreign.zip file is 18-May-2001, so I believe I have the most
recent version of both R and the foreign package. I would call this an
intermittant problem, except that I have this problem more frequently than not.
Yesterday it was working, but today it is shutting down the gui again. Any help
would be appreciated.

thanks much,
Aimee Broman
