virgilio,
i did my presentation at the asa meeting using RArcInfo
(giving you credits, of course).
while working with it and discussing it with other people,
2 issues arose.
one, i think, needs quick fixing,
the other one is more a feature wish.

1.
i was using another data set, the counties of austria.
we have 120 of them,
and a few of them are totally enclosed in just one other one.

the way you draw the polygons has the consequence that if the larger one
is drawn after the smaller one,
the color of the smaller one is "overwritten"
and therefore the map is really wrong in the relevant area.
so this needs fixing.

2. it would be nice of the number of polygon edges could
be "thinned out" for doing a screen image.
the resolution of the borderlines is usually the one needed only for
high quality large format paper printout.
for screen images, it would look better with more straight edge lines
and less corners.
i do not know if the arcinfo library you are using
supports such a thinning out.
as far as i know some gis programs have such a function built into them.

please tell me what you think about these 2 suggestions.

and thanks for a very nice R module.

erich
