[R] cluster (clara)

Hi,
sorry i have not beside this book
`clara' is fully described in chapter 3 "of Kaufman and Rousseeuw
 (1990) " , but need suggestion's.
 
Have anybody few words, how i have to interpret 
av_diss and isolation ?
 
Is it statistical nonsens (cases are propertys from persons) 
 recode nominal variables like "job positions" , "education" ... to binary variables
1/0 i.e.  Manager/NoManager  Worker/NoWorker .....
 for clustering,because when i use eulidean metric only similar ordinal scales  make
 sense without recoding. Additional for real-value's like age i do
 a  z-transformation ?
