[R] Problems with package XML

I'm having some difficulties with the package XML.

Namely, issuing the following commands:

> library(XML)
> hp <-  htmlTreeParse('http://www.liacc.up.pt/~ltorgo/index.html',isURL=T)

I get a flood of messages like this :
Save workspace image? [y/n/c]: readline: warning: rl_prep_terminal: cannot 
get terminal settings

My system is:
> version
         _                
platform i686-pc-linux-gnu
arch     i686             
os       linux-gnu        
system   i686, linux-gnu  
status                    
major    1                
minor    4.1              
year     2002             
month    01               
day      30               
language R  


I should mention the following. I've tried the same on several other machines 
(different OSes and architectures) and I did not get that error.  I should 
also mention that I suspect that it is something related to proxies. This 
suspection comes from the fact that I did not get the error with the same 
code tried on a different machine with exactly the same architecture and OS 
(Linux Mandrake 8.2), the only difference being that instead of accessing the 
Internet through a proxies it does it directly.

Any suggestions on how to overcome this ?
