still trouble (RE: [R] Compiling R-1.5.0 failed on AIX4.3)

Dear R-help,

I deleted `methods' from the list of packages in Makeconf.in and was able to
get through the compilation. However, `make check' fails, and R seems to
have trouble loading share libs. When starting R, it complained about not
finding the X libs and quits. If I specify --gui=none, then it starts but
complains about not being able to load the shared lib for `ctest'. Loading
any packages with shared libs give the same error.

Following the platform notes in R-admin manual, I set
MAIN_LDFLAGS="-Wl,-brtl" and SHLIB_LDFLAGS="-Wl,-G", but that didn't seem to
solve the problem.

R is now configured for powerpc-ibm-aix4.3.2.0

  Source directory: .
  Installation directory: /.../merck.com/fs/user/liawand/aix
  C compiler: gcc -mno-fp-in-toc -g -O2
  C++ compiler:              g++  -g -O2
  FORTRAN compiler: g77 -g -O2

  X11 support: yes
  Gnome support: no
  Tcl/Tk support: no
  Readline support: yes

  R profiling support: yes
R as a shared library: no

Any hints/helps are much appreciated!!

Regards,
Andy
