Hallo,

> a=rbind(a,1:4)
> a
[,1] [,2] [,3] [,4]
[1,]    0    1    2    0
[2,]    2    3    0    4
[3,]    0    0    3    0
[4,]    0    3    5    0
[5,]    1    2    3    4

And how looks like the command for the minimum of the rows? The result should be minOfRows = 0 0 0 0 1

Thanks,
Corinna

apply(a, 2, function(x) min(x[x!=0]) )

should do it. Might need some improvement if all numbers in a column
can be zero, try it.
