You can use match.fun

x
  V1 V2
1 2 3.2
2 15 1.2
3 2 8.4
4 8 9.2
5 7 0.4

min <- aggregate(x, list(x[,1]), min)
min <- aggregate(x, list(x[,1]), match.fun(min))
